Best 3 Places to Buy DIY Wedding Flowers

June 15, 2022      amicadavis

While DIY’ing your wedding florals is no easy feat and requires all hands on deck, you can save thousands…and thousands of dollars by shopping at these 3 places for a little bit of everything, the BASE, The SPECIALTIES, and the ACCENTS.

Costco Flowers

Step 1: Decide what your overall color scheme is going to be.

Going for a classic black tie wedding? Sounds like White Roses and Hydrangeas might be a great starting point for your designs. At Costco.com you can shop for bulk flowers and chose the exact delivery date. They ship to you in boxes, like any flower delivery company and usually come in packs of 25, 50 or 100.

Pros

  • Great prices for your basic base flowers – roses, hydrangeas and lilies.
  • Wholesale prices without having to find a public wholesale vendor.
  • Great quality of flowers that look extremely fresh for about 10 days!
  • Reliable shipping!
  • Average flower cost is $3 less per flower than your local florist!

Cons

  • White roses are not always in stock on their website so you have to stalk the site during peak season!
  • Consider doing 2 separate shipments if you are ordering a variety of flowers, the lilies I ordered were absolutely gorgeous but needed way more time to open up than the roses.
  • Not the largest variety of flowers.

Fifty Flowers

Step 2: Decide what flowers will give the look your stamp!

Fifty Flowers is an amazing site that has thousands of flower varieties that you can buy in bulk. I recommend these for your specialty flowers… and don’t forget about the greenery!!!

Pros

  • Inspiration Galore! On their site you can filter your search by wedding color theme, or shop from their “Make This Look” page.
  • Affordable prices and the more you buy the bigger the discount!
  • You can also buy one of their “Essential Bouquet Building Kits” which will save you from hunting down what you need on Amazon or at the craft store.
  • The Stock Flowers – 1000/10 (pictured right)

Cons

  • Out of the many boxes I received, 1 had the wrong type of flower which was not from my order. They did send an expedited replacement however so +10pts for responsive customer service.

Trader Joes

Step 3: Make a back up plan for last minute touch ups.

Perfect for last minute pick ups if you have a more boho, colorful garden theme. I have had friends pick up a few beautiful assortments for smaller arrangements like a memory table, or some greenery for the cake/dessert table.

Pros

  • Fresh flowers to add a pop of color into your arrangements
  • Ready to go flowers to pick up for the Rehearsal Dinner
  • Affordable with most arrangements coming in between $8 and $14

Cons

  • Difficult to plan out exactly what flowers you can get from there
  • You might not want to make a stop at the grocery chain amidst a very busy week- try sending a bridesmaid in the case of an emergency! LOL

Conclusion

It is a daunting task to build out your flower plan from scratch. Check out my latest post on my Wedding Flower Recipe to see the exact flowers and quantities I ordered from these shops to create my flower decor and bouquets.

2 years ✌🏼 We sure made each of the last 730 2 years ✌🏼

We sure made each of the last 730 days count. New jobs, becoming pup parents, being coworkers on a job site. Being excited, miserable, uncertain, grateful, spontaneous. Traveling to NYC and the PNW. Moving to a new city. 275 crunchwraps. Becoming extreme DIYers. No idea what the next 2 years will bring but I know it will be great. 🫶🏼
